Comparison between Peristaltic Pump and Metering Pump in Dosing Chemicals

time:2017-11-28 13:33:00from:JIHPUMP read:

Both peristaltic pumps and dosing pumps are commonly used in various dosing systems, such as adding disinfectants to swimming pools and chlorine to tap water. Dosing pumps include common types like diaphragm dosing pumps and plunger dosing pumps, while peristaltic pumps are divided into high-pressure and low-pressure constant flow pumps. These two different types of pumps have their own unique characteristics and differences when applied in dosing processes, as detailed below:

1. In peristaltic pumps, the fluid only comes into contact with the pump tube, unlike in plunger pumps and dosing pumps where there are dead spaces inside the pump that can easily trap liquid residue.
2. Conventional peristaltic pumps have discharge pressures within 0.2MPa, while high-pressure peristaltic pumps are less common and can reach pressures up to 0.6MPa.
3. Dosing pumps cannot handle fluids containing solid impurities, whereas peristaltic pumps can handle fluids with solid particles whose diameter is no more than 30% of the pipe diameter.
4. Peristaltic pumps have slightly better accuracy compared to dosing pumps, with precision reaching up to 1%.
5. Maintenance of dosing pumps is relatively complicated, especially when it comes to replacing seals and membranes, while replacing hoses in peristaltic pumps is much more convenient.
6. In terms of cost-effectiveness, dosing pumps are more capable of achieving higher flow rates and pressures at a lower price. Peristaltic pumps can replace dosing pumps well in terms of flow rates around or below 10L per hour. However, the cost of larger capacity peristaltic pumps is relatively high.
7. In terms of handling fluid properties, peristaltic pumps can transport highly viscous fluids, although efficiency may decrease accordingly.

Generally speaking, dosing pumps have a wider range of applications in dosing projects, while peristaltic pumps are more like a special type of pump that is used when certain process conditions cannot be met by dosing pumps.
